It moves through a barrier of undulating ribbons of energy. As it breaks the surface into reality, you see the inner workings of its cold menacing features…teeth sharpened to the point of a growl that fills your mind with endless recitation of the same phrase:

Find me in the Harrow…

You will play as members of a remote community far out in the Ninth World. It is your home, known to you as Eterna. You experience a vision spoken about in a dying faith–vision that calls you to a place you’ve known to be beyond the horizon, a place where no one goes–where no one is supposed to go. The Harrow.

To discuss your vision, you have been summoned to meet with Eterna’s guiding machine intelligence, GODMOTHER…a diviner? a keeper of the truest of secrets? a nonsense generator of the previous worlds? a source of nothing but riddles and madness?

Setting

Harrow is set somewhere in the Beyond, or perhaps Beyond the Beyond, in the village of Eterna.

Eterna rests in a relatively flat region of land; the earth here crunches under foot. The drit creates swirling puddles of thick oil and particles in the rain. There’s almost always a cold breeze in the air. At most, there can be distant mountains seen off to the west, but their name, their location, who lives there, what lives there? It’s all meaningless to the people of Eterna.

Eterna has come to be known by another name. In the guild halls and bars and study halls and other places that Delves and perhaps interested Nanos gather, there has been talk of the “Restless Oasis.”

This Restless Oasis is apparently a safe, reasonable place to stay when venturing far out into the Beyond–if you don’t mind perpetually being a little creeped out by your stay.

Eterna is home to a machine intelligence its people call GODMOTHER. There was apparently a far older and stranger name, but that is lost to time. Some people pay no mind to its constant watching eye, circuits and sensors tucked into almost every corner of Eterna give GODMOTHER a sense of omniscience.

A sisterhood in name only watches over the temple of GODMOTHER. Some devote their whole lives to staying in this ancient place of synth and wires and lights that never go out. GODMOTHER never speaks to them, yet they swear they learn and absorb eons of information by staying within the walls of her sanctum.

It’s said that you go between two states in Eterna; there are moments where you are finally alone, alone in physical and mental and digital space. Then there are times you’re not. That, they say, is when GODMOTHER is listening.
